There’s a Wombat in my Bed

What happens when a group of Aussie animals come to my home for a visit?

They get into every room and the backyard, doing things I didn’t know animals could do!

There’s lots of funny antics, pictures, good times and rhymes when I discover that There’s a Wombat in my Bed!

This book of wonderful rhymes came from an idea from my little (“I’m big”) five-year-old girl who ran into our bedroom one morning, yelled “There’s a Wombat in my Bed” and promptly ran back into her bedroom, where we found her under the bedcovers being “the wombat”.
What else could I do but start making up these rhymes.
With the help of “Uncle Phil”, the rhymes were transformed into the colourful images you see in the book. Joanna announced her approval by telling Uncle Phil, “You did really well, you didn’t even go out of the lines …”

  • There’s a wombat in my bed is a beautiful Australian children’s book. Not only is it a beautiful story, this book engages children activities through the beautiful and colourful illustrations that support the text. Children also learn to identify Australian animals in a fun and entertaining format. It is very difficult to find books with Australian content for young readers in Australia – I wish this book had been around when my daughter was learning to read it would have been one of her favourite.

  • The story books can be used in the classroom using a cross curricula program which encompasses a wide range of activities ranging from English, math, science, geography, Aboriginal culture, music and art. I feel it is very worthwhile for Primary school and for Special Education teachers

  • Thank you so much for the Wombat book.  Our daughter LOVES it! She has asked to read it several times already and wants to take it to school to read to her class as well, so it is much appreciated.
